Jane Tate

ARTISTS' STATEMENT
When I paint, I strive to freely transmit the joy and liberation I feel from creating images inspired by the profundity of northern New Mexico's natural beauty and diverse geography. I invite viewers to experience what I see and to develop their own emotional response to the place I have called home for more than 30 years.
BACKGROUND
Jane Tate, born in Waco, Texas in 1930, has had a long and accomplished career creating visual art. Her fascination with nature forms and art media began in high school with biological renderings of the diverse flora of rural Texas. She began her formal art studies at the University of Texas in Austin and completed her B.A. with a concentration in Applied Art History and Art Education.
Upon graduation, Jane worked as an art instructor, teaching art to both children and adults. She developed her oil painting skills and gold leafing techniques while working at the Museum of Fine Art in Houston under the guidance of widely-respected restoration artist, Jack Flanagan. It was there where she was deeply inspired by major painting exhibitions by European and Asian masters.
She moved to the Taos, New Mexico area in 1970 to develop her art and continues to live and work in Taos as a full-time artist today. Her work is esteemed for its bold, spontaneous brushwork and rich color palette. Subtle gold-leafing graces many of her paintings, creating a holographic effect that alters hues and colors depending on the perspective from which the paintings are viewed. Jane's work is housed in prestigious public and private collections across the country.

Sorry - since my paintings are original one-of-kind works, they are not available for wholesale purchase.
