Jo Anne Paulk
Ojo Glass

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Born in Texas, I have lived in Colorado and northern New Mexico for almost 30 years, and since 1979 in the small village of Ojo Sarco on the High Road between Taos and Santa Fe.

Self taught until 1999, I have been working with stained glass since 1986, when a friend took me with her to buy supplies for her glass project. My love for working in this medium began with my fascination for the myriad colors and textures glass provides, and the fun I've always had with puzzles. I bring to my glass work several years experience as a jeweler and photographer, and feel that the talents necessary for both have enhanced my use of color, texture, and design.

In 1999 I began studying with master sandblaster Butch Young in Albuquerque, NM. Techniques learned have enabled me to produce more diversified work, incorporating sophisticated surface blasting and carving techniques with painting and gold leafing, as well as sandblasting on tempered glass such as shower doors and table tops.

In 1999, I also began working with "warm" glass. I create fused glass paintings, platters and coasters, sinks and large vessels, and dichroic jewelry and barrettes. I am now co-teaching small classes with Butch Young at her California studio, where students learn techniques combining blasting with fusing and slumping glass.

My goal is to provide the customer with exquisite, unique items that will bring pleasure each time they are seen. While visiting northern New Mexico, look for my work in Las Comadres Gallery and Ammann Gallery in Taos, Mesa's Edge Gallery (Taos, Ranchos de Taos, & Taos Ski Valley), and the High Road Marketplace in Chimayo.
