This Critter Wit Designs' site is dedicated to Blackie, my good friend who has entered the spirit world after a long and happy life. Blackie greeted each morning with an enthusiastic "Hooray! Hooray! Another day! Get up! Get up!" She loved everyone she met as long as they weren't a dog, and never could pass up a frisbee, a ball, or anything that even vaguely resembled food. You'll find her in many of my paintings with a few minor changes to protect the innocent.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT AND BACKGROUND
When I was growing up, I loved to draw my family's many animals. These early drawings have evolved into the brightly colored humorous paintings I create today.
To me, finding humor in everyday life is very rewarding, helping to keep things in perspective. Adding bright, strong, cheerful colors to our environment is uplifting as well. Many people like to have my paintings in their living and work spaces so they can have a laugh during the day. This is art for a joyful spirit!
My work has been shown in many juried and invitational exhibits throughout the United States and has been featured in Southwest Airlines Spirit inflight magazine, The Albuquerque Journal, ABQ arts and Crosswinds Weekly among other publications. I have worked closely with the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, donating artwork for their Doggie Dash marathon and art auction fundraisers. My artwork has also been used by Watermelon Mountain Ranch animal sanctuary in Bernalillo, New Mexico and Woods Animal Humane Society in San Luis Obispo, California.
In 1980 I moved to Albuquerque from New Hampshire. New Mexico's varied landscape, rich cultural heritage and many talented animals are a constant source of wonder and inspiration.
